Preschool PreK Time

This 30 minute drop in storytime is designed for preschool-age children 3 years of age and older. Children are encouraged to either attend without their grown-up or sit independently on the floor while their grown-up enjoys a chair. Attendance is drop-in, first come, first served. Younger siblings can attend on their grown-up's lap.

Pre-School PreK Time is very interactive and structured. We start promptly at 10:45a.m. Children attend Pre-School PreKTime independently while caregivers relax nearby. We introduce classroom skills and independence using our familiar story time format. We read at least three picture books and talk, sing, and move. We end by lining up and singing our animal goodbye song then parading out the door.

Plan to help your children attend and participate on their own to help them getting ready for school. Children often need a gradual approach to attending solo. You may start by watching through the door or attending together and having your child sit on the floor away from you while you sit in a chair. Repeat as needed if the child is nervous.

Registration is not required for most story times.
We meet nearly every week year-round.

We cancel children’s events whenever Mason City Schools close due to Severe Weather. Delays do not count as closings.
